Sephora Collection Make No Mistake Foundation & Concealer Stick | Swatch and Review – Shade 3 Beechwood

It’s rare that I find a stick foundation that works for my skin. I have combination skin for the record – an oily nose and normal-dry everywhere else – so I find that a lot just don’t work with the mix! When I saw positive reviews from people with oily skin and dry skin I was intrigued – and they say that curiosity killed he cat so for Gypsy’s sake I wasn’t taking that risk!

The Sephora Collection Make No Mistake Foundation & Concealer Stick retails for $20USD in the American Sephora – I haven’t found this on the Australian website as yet. On their website it is described as having a medium to full coverage with a ‘natural matte finish’ and is suitable for normal, dry, combination and oily skin and is recommended to be used as both a foundation and concealer that doesn’t settle into fine lines or wrinkles. With multiple positive reviews online and claims like that what was I meant to do?

Side note to say that this baby has a LOT of product included – I know that a lot of stick products tend to have seemingly less product than their liquid or powder counterparts and to see this much product was impressive!

I usually match with Mac’s NC15 but right now being better weather I have a slight tan and no idea about my match – perhaps NC20? Needless this is it swatched lightly on my skin – first impression was that it didn’t feel like it pulled on my skin and applied quite pigmented and creamy.

My first application of the product I used my usual daily Primer routine (to give it the fairest go) and applied the stick directly to my face, using an oval ‘toothbrush’ type brush to spread the product over my face. I wasn’t able to get an even coverage no matter how many layers I applied – I think at about three I gave up. It wore for quite a few hours on my skin, but it didn’t stick to my nose at all and accentuated texture quite heavily.

My next application I used my BeautyBlender as I do most days and had the same results. Ditto with a flat top face brush.

The best I can do with my shade match is share with you what shades I usually wear as I’m pale 95% of the time! We’ve obviously got the Sephora foundation closest to my elbow, and bottom – top after that is Stila Stay All Day in Bare 1, Hourglass Vanish Stick in Alabaster, Urban Decay Fair Neutral Concealer, n Colorstay 150. So as you can tell from swatches it is a couple of shades darker than most I usually wear!

I really wanted to love this foundation. The reviews were amazing but I just cannot make it work! I have combination skin – my nose gets very oily throughout the day and my cheeks are normal-dry depending on the day. The week that I tested this out I had some texture issues on my cheek – I don’t often have this problem but it was good I guess to see how it worked (or in this case didn’t) with this foundation.

I’ve come to realise stick foundations just aren’t for me – no matter how much I want to love them!

I have the tarte stick foundation sitting in my cart and I want to get it but I am always so sceptical with sticks. I just feel like the coverage isn’t there. That is super dark too 🙁 such a bummer!!

Oh that’s disappointing! I hate it when products show up skin texture. Thanks for the honest review 🙂

I didn’t quite realise how bad my texture was until I was testing this foundation! Thankfully that’s all mostly gone now. Honesty is my policy always!

I can’t say I’ve been a big fan of stick foundations yet. They just don’t suit my dry skin :/

I just wish I could find one because the formula and packaging is so convenient!
