With the combination of work and university recently I haven’t had a lot of ‘me time’. My spare time has been spent either sleeping or studying, and taking care of myself has fallen by the wayside. Whilst eating healthier and exercising more are things I will focus on after university exams are completed, something I’m making sure to do at least once a week is to put aside an hour or so and give myself a little pick-me-up treat!
Life can be pretty stressful, and it’s important to take some time out when you can to relax and look after yourself, so you don’t get too run down or stressed out. It allows you to soothe and unwind. I tend to do this mid-week as a way to de-stress from what’s already occurred, and to prepare myself for the rest of the week. My pamper nights focus on two things – skincare and a bath.
Baths are one of my favourite things, especially in the cooler months – there is nothing more relaxing to me than a nice warm and relaxing bath, retiring to bed afterwards in a fresh pair of pyjamas. (Yes, well aware I’m practically a grandma with that statement) I like to use my baths to relax and unwind, as well as moisturise my skin.
I start by sprinkling some of the Dr Teal’s Lavender Epsom Salt Solution* whilst the bath is filling up. These bath salts help to ease any aches and pains and the lavender helps to relax and soothe the mind, perfect after a long day at work or a workout at the gym! Usually I’d also add in a moisturising bath bomb or bath oil at this stage, both of which I’m currently out of, but something like the Lush Milky Bath is the perfect combination of creamy skin goodness and bubbles – usually I’d use the Argan 5 Body Oil or the Lush Butterball Bath Bomb but this works a treat! Then when I’m not using Milky Bath, I like to crumble in some of the Lush Comforter Bubble Bar, which is my all-time favourite bath product that Lush has, for the gorgeous blackberry scent and the mountains of bubbles it creates. Sinking into this bath is exactly what I need, and I like to set up a chair with my laptop and catch up on an episode of television that I’ve missed!
While I’m indulging myself in a warm bath and a good show, I also like to give my skin a bit of a miniature facial. I keep a face washer nearby and wet it with the tap and wipe away any residue from the day that’s left on my face. I start with the Swisse Manuka Honey Detoxifying Facial Mask on my nose, t-zone, any pimples or areas of my skin that are feeling congested – most of the time I put it all over for convenience. I leave that for between 5-15 minutes and use the face washer to remove it all. I then follow up with the Lush Cup O’Coffee Face and Body Mask all over my face – I love this for the scent (I loooove coffee!) but also because the coffee granules are such a fantastic exfoliator, and unlike most coffee scrubs it’s mess-free because of the ‘wetter’ consistency. That I leave on for another roughly 10-15 minutes before rinsing. I then leave my skin fresh whilst finishing the bath, and upon completion tend to head to bed, so I use my usual eye cream and serum and put on a layer of the Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask* – I absolutely love using this, the manuka honey is anti-bacterial for any congestion in the skin, and it’s so hydrating too – perfect for the cooler months!
Even after writing this post out I feel more relaxed! It’s so unbelievably important to take time out for yourself, and this routine leaves me feeling warm and comfortable, ready for a good night’s sleep and to help me tackle the rest of the week! Does your pamper routine look similar?
