Mecca Max ‘Gleam Team’ | Swatch and Review

A couple of weeks ago now I was lucky enough to receive a parcel in the mail from Mecca containing their new Mecca Max Gleam Team range. If you’re new here, you wouldn’t know my love for Mecca Max products nor my obsession with highlighting products – so needless to say I knew this was a range I needed to try out ASAP!

This range contains four different products and all are under $25. The Glow Powder Highlighting Duo’s are Limited Edition (and selling fast, so if you’re keen to pick them up after this review don’t skip it!) but the Liquid Light, Lip Light and Starlit Glow Pencil are all a new part of their permanent range.

I’ve tried each of these products a minimum of 3 times with different products and under different conditions and I’m so excited to share my review with you all.

First up we’ve got the Glow Powder Highlighting Duo’s. In the shades (L-R) Bronze Heat, Pink Spark and Rose Radiance these are limited edition highlighting duos in complementary shades.

Bottom – Top: Bronze Heat, Pink Spark, Rose Radiance.

Surprisingly my favourite of these was Bronze Heat! I initially discounted it because of the darkness of the bronze shade but I’ve been using that as an eyeshadow and am absolutely loving the pigment and how easy it is to use – plus the highlighter matches me perfectly.

Pink Spark and Rose Radiance do definitely share two similar shades and in all honesty I wasn’t as impressed by these, purely because with my skin tone they’re difficult to use. They were a bit too pink to use as highlighters (I have warmer toned skin so gold and champagne tones suit me best) and a bit too shimmery for blush although I did try! I’ve used these as eyeshadow though which they do work well for. Might be worth trialling if you aren’t as pale skinned as I am!

Next up we have the Starlit Glow Pencil and the Lip Lights. The Starlit Glow Pencil comes in one universal shade and there are for variations of the Lip Lights.

In 100% certainty the Starlit Glow Pencil is my favourite item from the range – and I wasn’t expecting to say that at the start of the trial period! It is a shade that I can already tell will work well on different skin tones and the formula is pigmented, creamy and long lasting.

I’ve been using this predominantly in the inner corner and have been so impressed with the lasting power – sometimes the eyeshadows I use in the inner corner fade or get fallout during the day but this isn’t an issue at all. It is so precise and easy to use and I’m honestly obsessed! I’ve also used this on my waterline and underneath my brows but the inner corner is definitely my favourite place to use it. I haven’t gone a day without using it since – even if I’m not doing a full face I usually just do brows and mascara but I’ve been including this and it just makes me look and feel a little more put together.

This retails for $18 and if you’re only thinking of getting one item from the range – GET THIS!

The Lip Lights come in four different shades and retail for $16 each. Left-Right swatches are Heavenly, Magic, Wildfire and Dusk.

As you can see from the swatches the pigment varies between the shades. Two of the colours barely give any colour at all however the two more pigmented ones are quite impressive. The ‘feel’ of this product wore off after about an hour however I was impressed to see that a few hours after that my lips still had the initial colour to them, even if they did feel a lot drier.

It’s a really interesting product – you can definitely get away with it all over the lips if you’re younger but I think at my age (and I’m only 23!) it is more ‘appropriate’ to wear over a lip liner or in the centre of the lips with a different product underneath. I just can’t pull these off – and I wish I could!

I was most excited to try the Liquid Light Illuminating drops out of the range. I feel like liquid highlighters are very much hit and miss products and I’ve tried some good and bad ones throughout my time.

I am happy to report that these are GOOD! I can really only get away with the shade Quartz (swatches below) with my skintone – I do also love Opal however the pink reflect sadly just doesn’t suit me. As you’ll see from the swatches too Gold and Topaz just won’t work for me so I’ll be sharing the love to a friend shortly !

I’ve used this mixed in with foundation, however my favourite way to use them is over my foundation before continuing the rest of my makeup. I apply a drop to the back of my hand, apply and tap the product to the high points of my face with a finger and if I feel the need I’ll bounce over it with my BeautyBlender. These are beautiful in the fact that you can set them with a powder and they don’t lose any of their impact. It doesn’t disrupt product underneath or on top and the glow lasts all day – or at least the 13 hours I wore them on one of the days!

Bottom – Top: Opal, Quartz, Gold, Topaz

So as you can tell there’s definitely some clear winners from this take! If you’re only to get one item the Starlit Glow Pencil is an absolute must-have (I’m tempted to buy a backup, which I know is ridiculous!) but I’d also highly recommend trying the Liquid Lights as well as the Glow Duo’s. Definitely a range to do some further investigating in store – well worth the affordable price tag!
