Recently I made a sneaky little trip to Chemist Warehouse for bandaids, and walked out with no bandaids but a new foundation ! Recently released is the newest foundation from Maybelline, the Dream Cushion foundation. I’ve never used a cushion foundation before, so I gave it a go straight away.
Firstly, I think the packaging is super cute – it says everything it needs to about the product, it has an SPF of 40 which is amazing for a foundation like woah! It says it gives a ‘Perfect Coverage’ and ‘Fresh Luminous Glow’.
Upon opening the compact, there is a small applicator and mirror and then you open it again to reveal the product underneath. Sure enough, it felt like a cushion! It’s the weirdest feeling to touch.
I picked up the shade 01 Natural Ivory, which swatched here looks super orange but the shade is the perfect match for my pale skin – with a yellow undertone too, which is so hard ! Major props to Maybelline for that one.
First Impression: I wore the foundation for about 9 hours just during a day where I was at home doing some blog work (as well as watching YouTube videos and cuddling Gyps, of course!). I used my normal primers, powder and setting spray as I do on a normal day to give it the best ‘real’ test. A quick dab of my BeautyBlender into the compact gave enough product to cover half of my face. One layer gave a super lightweight coverage, two built it to a more medium finish which I prefer. It’s definitely a luminous foundation – didn’t feel as much of one at the start, but I checked my makeup roughly every hour and a half and I could definitely notice more of a natural glow throughout the day. Sadly by the ninth hour, I noticed it had really faded around my chin and forehead area, and my nose was an absolute oily mess !
I’ve since used the foundation a handful of other times, once on a full day at work and honestly I looked tragic at the end of the day! I love how the foundation gives you a natural glow, it feels so nice with my drier skin to have something so lightweight but sadly it just doesn’t last too well on my skin.
When I wear makeup, I apply it around 7-8am and often have it on until at least 6pm – an average work day. Sometimes I’ll keep it on for a while when I’m home. This is the sort of foundation I’m reaching for when I have to duck out for an hour or two – this is something I’ve been wearing on Sunday’s (which are for brunch and groceries) and it’s something I envisage I’ll wear for shorter days at uni because it’s lightweight on the skin and gives a gorgeous finish. It just isn’t long lasting enough, and I need to blot every 2-3 hours – I do have to use a tinted powder especially on my chin (which is never really oily?) because the coverage fades also.
I do really like this foundation. Drier skinned girls, you’ve found your match! I couldn’t recommend it for oily skin tones, a little too dewy for that and I’d only recommend it for shorter adventures, not all day wear!
