When I went to New Zealand, I went via Sydney International Airport, and you better believe I stopped in at the Mac counter at Duty Free! As well as picking up a few bits for friends, I grabbed a sample of the Mac Studio Waterweight Foundation in NC15. I’ve been meaning to test it out for weeks, but with the recent release of it in Australian stores (finally) I gave it a go over a casual Sunday at home!
From the Mac website (US website, it’s currently available in Australian stores but I can’t find it on the website!)
“Studio Waterweight SPF30 Foundation. A foundation that delivers colour in an ultra-fluid, thin, elastic gel-serum formula. With a virtually weightless feel, this formula is extraordinarily comfortable, lasting for hours. With stay-true colour and sheer medium buildable coverage, it softly blurs imperfections such as pores and fine lines, while also controlling oil. The addition of Moisture-Fusion Complex provides immediate and all-day hydration, leaving skin feeling quenched an silky to the touch.”

Definitely big claims for this foundation! I applied it at around 10.15am (I slept in because I was sick that day, oops!). Due to being sick, my skin was suffering from a few breakouts so I didn’t take a before and after photo due to being quite self conscious about it! I just used my regular primers, applied the foundation with a damp Beauty Blender and powdered on top with a translucent powder from Maybelline, setting with my Urban Decay spray. I didn’t add anything else over the top because I wanted to see how the foundation lasted. I definitely found it was a light coverage, it was buildable but I definitely wouldn’t call it medium. My blemishes and scarring were still visible. The foundation gave my skin a subtle glow, which it definitely needed! (I have spoken to a friend who has let me know that for her, it can be built to a medium coverage using a brush such as the Sigma F80 Kabuki – so that’s definitely something to test if you get a sample!
I found that over time, the foundation did transfer a little bit – evident by the slight cheek print left on my black pillowcase after an afternoon nap! felt like the coverage improved throughout the day, almost as if it oxidised slightly however the colour match was still perfect for my skin. I’m pretty impressed with how it stayed on my nose – whilst a bit was gone due to tissue usage, the rest was still there with a slight oiliness to it – better than some foundations I’ve tried! I took it off at around 8pm, which is the time I’d generally remove my foundation after a day.
Overall, I think this is a great little foundation. It’s relatively long-wearing, however the transferring isn’t ideal. It felt really comfortable on my skin and I didn’t feel that it was drying, in fact it gave a nice subtle glow. I definitely felt natural on my skin. It’s a light coverage which isn’t personally for me, but if you’re someone with perfect skin or who loves a lighter coverage – this is definitely a foundation I recommend!
