I truly absolutely love where I live. I think Tasmania is such a beautiful place, with so many amazing places to visit, things to see and new food places to explore! (Because there isn’t a word/series of word that encompasses cafes, coffee shops, restaurants, takeaway shops etc…. better than food place!)
So today, I’m starting up a new series on the blog showcasing with you some of my absolute favourite places to visit in Tasmania – because I get asked that consistently through Instagram and Snapchat, and rather than write a list, I want to be able to reference some of these amazing places.
Starting with dessert – because why not?
Honey Badger Dessert Cafe is situated in Salamanca Square, right in the heart of Hobart’s CBD/wharf area – the ideal location. Open 10am-10pm Sunday-Thursday and 10am-11pm Friday and Saturday, Honey Badger was the addition to Hobart’s eating scene that nobody really knew we were missing – until it arrived!
Honey Badger offer a delicious array of both sweet and savoury (offering brunch until 3pm) and cover desserts with traditional favourites, such as brownies, panna cotta and my favourite apple crumble, to delicious options such as a panookie (a cookie in a pan, and even more delicious than it sounds) to waffles, cheesecake, french toast – basically everything you could imagine! They’ve also got a ridiculously large drinks menu, as well as a seasonal dessert menu that changes every so often – if you were to try to eat your way through the menu you’d need a few weeks – and a larger pair of pants!
Honey Badger is one of the real gems of the Hobart food scene – it has a laid-back casual atmosphere that is perfect for date night, catch-ups, meetings and more. It’s a place that’s perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner – and funnily enough, dessert! I’ve gone more times than I’d care to admit and am only a small way through the menu – some of my favourites include the Black Panookie, Apple Crumble, Banoffee and Sugar & Spice Waffles, but everything I’ve tasted I haven’t been able to fault. (Peep their current menu here)
There’s never once been a time where I’ve had bad service, an unclean table or anything burnt/undercooked – and most importantly, it’s always been the perfect temperature – never too warm in summer or cool in winter – and that’s no mean feat here in Tasmania.
I’ll leave you with a picture of my most recent adventure to Honey Badger – I unsurprisingly had the Apple Crumble once again, and my partner had the Baked Lemon Cheesecake – I can also say that this was incredibly delicious and the Persian Fairy Floss may have disappeared off of his plate… Not sure how that happened!
If you’re headed down Hobart way, definitely don’t miss a trip to Honey Badger! You’ll definitely not regret it – your waistline might!
(Ps – totally not sponsored, I wish it was! I can totally see how it’d seem that way – it’s probably because I’m hungry!)
