Make sure you have a drink or snack handy, because this post is going to be a long one! By now you would have already seen my Part One post with my more affordable highlighters – this is my higher end highlighters! Available more from Myer/David Jones/Mecca/Sephora in Australia, these are the ones that have a home in my collection! I’m a huge high end highlighter junkie, hence why I have so many! I haven’t swatched them all this time – I swatched ones that aren’t as commonly reviewed online or that I wanted to compare for you all instead!
Laura Mercier L-R: Highlight 01; Devotion; Indiscretion.
Swatches bottom-top: Highlight 01, Devotion; Indiscretion.
I am such a huge fan of Laura Mercier products in general! The baked highlighter in 01 is simply gorgeous, something perfect for pale skin as a gorgeous highlight for the cheekbones. Devotion is my most recent addition, something a lot pinker – it doesn’t swatch very well at all, but gives such a gorgeous glow on the cheeks when applied with a brush (I use the Sigma F35 Tapered Highlight Brush and it works like a dream) so that’s forgiven! Indiscretion I went through so much to get, but I mainly wanted it for the pattern – the shade is a gorgeous rose-gold, but is a little too dark for me.
Clockwise from top: Stila Kitten Duo; Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette; The Balm Mary Lou-Manizer; Mac Mineralise Skinfinish ‘Lightscapade’; Mac Mineralise Skinfinish ‘Soft and Gentle’ (old packaging).
These are some of the most common and most hyped highlighters on the internet so I decided against swatching them because there are so many swatches out there! My favourites are definitely Stila Kitten and The Balm’s Mary Lou-Manizer, one being more subtle and then Mary Lou being more of an ‘in your face’ glow.
Swatches bottom-top: Anastasia Beverly Hills ‘Starlight’; Urban Decay ‘Sin’; Napoleon Perdis ‘Angel Dust’.
Napoleon Angel Dust is an eyeshadow, but is a gorgeous highlighting shade for pale skin. Sin from Urban Decay is the newest in my collection of the three, and gives a pale golden glow. My favourite though would definitely be Anastasia’s Starlight – such a gorgeous glow, easily buildable for a strong look!
Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed – Clockwise from top: Champagne Pop; Opal (miniature); Rose Gold; Pearl; Moonstone.
Swatches bottom-top: Pearl; Moonstone; Champagne Pop; Opal; Rose Gold.
My absolute all time favourite highlighter in general is Becca’s Moonstone – in case you can’t tell from the crazy amount of use in the pan! It’s perfect for my skintone – gives the most perfect highlight for every day, I always go back to using it no matter what else! I also love Champagne Pop mixed with Pearl – Pearl is slightly too light and Champagne Pop slightly too dark for my complexion, but mixed together is absolutely gorgeous! Rose Gold I tend to use mostly as a blush topper (and will appear in my blush collection post) because it’s definitely not intended as a highlight for my paleness!
L-R: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid ‘Opal’; Stila Convertible Colour ‘Kitten’; Benefit Watt’s Up; Benefit High Beam; Benefit Girl Meets Pearl; Josie Maran Argan Enlightenment Illuminiser.
Swatches bottom-top: Stila Convertible Colour ‘Kitten’; Benefit Watt’s Up; Benefit High Beam; Benefit Girl Meets Pearl; Josie Maran Argan Enlightenment Illuminiser; Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid ‘Opal’.
I tend to use my liquid and cream highlighters less than I use my powders because I find that powder is easier for every day when I’m in a rush to do my makeup and leave the house, but when I have time I layer cream and powder, or mix a liquid into my foundation. I love layering Stila’s Convertible Colour in Kitten with a powder such as Mary-Lou for a crazy intense glow, or using it on the cheekbones if I’m doing my makeup only using cream/liquid products. One of my absolute favourites from this lot is Benefit’s High Beam, I think it layers perfectly with so many products!
As you can tell, I have quite a ridiculously large amount of highlighters! I definitely need to declutter some of them and put them up into my blog sale because no single human needs this many pretty shiny things! Plus I may or may not have one on the way… I have a huge obsession with highlighters, and I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing the extent of my hoarding habits!
