Garbo & Kelly Highlighting Kit | Swatch & Review

I was recently lucky enough to be sent two items from the brand Garbo & Kelly by one of my favourite only beauty retail destinations Adore Beauty. Today I’m going to be sharing with you guys swatches and a review of their ‘Master of Illumination’ Highlighting Kit, which I’ve come to love – as you’ll have seen in my February Favourites!

Garbo and Kelly is a brand I honestly hadn’t heard of prior to receiving these beauties in the mail, but funnily enough ever since I’ve been seeing their products pop up in various people’s YouTube videos and Instagram photos. They’re definitely a brand on the rise, some of their packaging really reminds me of Anastasia Beverly Hills.

Their Master of Illumination palette contains six highlighting shades – two matte and four shimmers, which are versatile enough to be used for different purposes.

The two matte shades (Grace and Greta, the first two swatched above) can be used as both highlighting shades on the high points of the face, or my personal preference – as setting powders for under the eyes. I find that Grace, the more pink/neutral toned shade is perfect for everyday, whereas Greta is great for brightening. They don’t show up a whole lot on the swatches here because they’re so close to my skin tone, but these would definitely work amazingly well as setting powders to add a hint of brightness for deeper skin tones- they work perfectly for me as they’re closer to my skin tone, so they’d easily add a hint of brightness to anyone darker than me. Which isn’t hard!

The four illuminating shades are Ava, Charlie, Lana and Garland (swatched in order upwards after the matte shades). What blows me away about this palette is that I can use EVERY. SINGLE. SHADE. Which, being a pale NC15 baby (with a slight tan currently too!) is something that’s pretty rare with palettes such as this- usually 1-2 will suit me and the others I can’t touch. I’ve easily and happily worn all shades individually now multiple times and feel comfortable, I’m also loving mixing them too- my current daily highlight is Garland with either Charlie or Ava.

Each of these powders have a really great formula. The matte shades are buttery smooth, they make excellent face powders to set under the eyes and I’m sure would be excellent on the cheekbones (they are too subtle on my skin tone to notice). The shimmer shades aren’t chunky at all, they have a slight glitter to them which I personally love in a highlighter. They’re pigmented by themselves, but are easily buildable to a standout, all-day glow, which I love creating by adding layers of different shades. It doesn’t emphasise texture at all, and I notice a highlight still after 10-12 hours of the makeup being on my face, however slightly faded and the glitter is a little more obvious. They’re also really good for Eyeshadow – I’ve been using Garland regularly in the inner corner and on the Brow bone; with Lana being a favourite as an all over shimmer shade.

I’m definitely a huge fan of this palette from Garbo & Kelly (in case you couldn’t tell from my rave review above) and recommend it to pretty much anyone – it’s a super wearable palette for any skin tone, something that’d probably be quite valuable in a freelance makeup kit ! A huge thank you again must go to Adore Beauty for introducing this baby to my life – my hands have now got the pretty packaging dirty from how much I’ve been using it, I’m obsessed! Australian babes, Adore Beauty are the official stockist for Garbo & Kelly – jump on this asap because I can guarantee it’ll soon be a sellout!

JEAAALOUS. I just ran out of both my MAC studio fluid in NW10 and NC15 at the exact time -_- think I will pick up NC15 again cause I can lighten it a little but NW10 was like too pink.
