I’m regularly asked on Instagram what makeup items I use on a daily basis – and I try to share that on my Instagram Stories as much as possible. It’s hard to share exactly what I use every day – I’m in the position where I’m constantly able to try and test out new products so my everyday routine changes most days! I thought however it was time to share with you the products I reach for the most consistently.
At the moment I’m trialling a few new products so they aren’t included – but these are the products that I’m reaching for the most consistently when doing my makeup every day!
My primer combination can change, but the ones I’m loving the most are the Mac Prep + Prime Pore Refining Stick*, the Smashbox Under Eye Primer and the NYX Hydra Touch Primer. The Mac Pore Refining Stick is an essential in my t-zone – unlike some pore filling/refining products it doesn’t feel silicone based and I haven’t had a single issue with it not working underneath any other product. I really do notice a difference in the texture of my skin throughout the day when I use this and I really do love it! The Smashbox primer I’ve been using for years now under my concealer and while it probably isn’t a necessary item I feel a lot more comfortable using it considering the darkness and fine lines I’ve got going on under my eyes at the ripe old age of 23! The NYX primer is a little thicker than your average hydrating primer and it just gives a really gentle base to apply makeup on top of.
For foundation I’m back using the Too Faced Peach Perfect Foundation now that I have my perfect shade, Swan. It matches my skin perfectly and lasts fairly flawlessly throughout the day – it does start to break up on my nose towards the end of the day but in a way where it just starts looking radiant with oil, not wet! It also doesn’t exaggerate any dryness on my skin and doesn’t cake up throughout the day – it’s probably my perfect foundation right now. And to set it I’ve been using the Essence Instant Matt Makeup Setting Spray. It’s not quite as good as my beloved CoverFX Mattifying Spray but it’s still pretty darn good – and a lot less expensive!
Powder is my beloved Mecca Max Blur Veil in Light – I’ve hit pan in multiple places! You can use this either dry to set foundation or wet for a more full-coverage look and it’s been my go-to ever since I started using it. For contour I’m obsessed with the Rimmel Insta Duo Contour Stick in Light* because it just blends beautifully into the skin and gives a really natural contour which is my preference! The highlighting end is gorgeous too but on an everyday basis it’s only the contour that I use. For brows I’ve been reaching for the Maybelline Total Temptation Brow Definer in Medium Brown*. The shade is probably a little bit too dark for me but with a light hand I make it work – it is so easy and effortless to create shade and definition in the brow and the spoolie is the perfect size! I top it with the Tarte Tarteist Brow Gel for a lasting brow throughout the day. Cheek wise again I’m obsessed with the Mecca Max Bronzer in Light which I’ve also hit pan on and can’t live without, and for blush I can’t stop reaching for the L’Oreal Life’s a Peach because it gives a gentle illuminating (but not glittery/sparkly) light peach wash of colour that’s so incredibly flattering on the skin.
The L’Oreal Voluminous Eyelash Primer is something I use underneath every mascara that I try – I just find that it separates the lashes and makes them easier to really define with mascara. It also helps to gently nourish my lashes and I’ve found that the overall health and feel of my eyelashes has really improved since I’ve been using an eyelash primer on the regular. To top everything off I’ve been using a decent amount of the Mac Fix + spray all over the face to settle down the powders and help hydrate the skin – it is winter after all!
I know what you’re thinking – I’ve missed a lot of products/steps! Highlight, mattifying primer, eyeshadow, corrector and concealer… And you’re right! These are the things that I’m changing up regularly or trialling new products for and I’m just not comfortable including them in my ‘everyday’ routine. But these are the products that I’m currently obsessing over that I am using on an everyday basis! I hope this answers some of your questions about what I use, and I’d love to know what products you’re loving so I can check them out too!
