What a year 2017 was! Full of ups and downs, it’s no secret that I’m very happy to be in 2018 and feeling a whole lot of positivity regarding the year ahead! Today is time to reflect on the makeup that I loved throughout the past year and to share my overall favourite makeup products of 2017 – some from earlier in the year, some I discovered in 2016 and some just recent additions! A warning – this post has a LOT of products that I’ve loved from throughout 2017 – brace yourself!
The Urban Decay Naked Heat Eyeshadow Palette I wanted ever since I first laid eyes on it and snapped it up during a pre-release at Mecca Maxima – I reviewed it here and have loved it ever since! No surprises that my Mac Cosmetics Amplified Lipstick in Blankety has made it into my favourites – we all know it’s my absolute favourite nude and that hasn’t changed! The Australis Fresh and Flawless Powder I never really gave a proper chance until a couple of months back and now I’m using it daily – it’s a beautiful finishing powder that adds a very light amount of coverage to the skin. The Pixi Beauty Peach Corrector I’m so impressed with – it doesn’t fully colour correct my undereyes but does the best job of anything I’ve ever tested. The CoverFX Illuminating Setting Spray* is something I’m so grateful to have been introduced to – it gives the skin such a beautiful luminosity. The PONi Cosmetics Lip Magic* tinted lipbalm is a beautiful light wash of pink to the lips and has been a constant in my handbag since it first arrived. The Stila Stay All Day Foundation & Concealer has been a firm favourite – a trusty medium-full buildable foundation that lasts well on my combination skin + the concealer in the lid does a damn good job of covering blemishes!
The Colourpop x Karreuche ‘She’ Fem Rosa Eyeshadow Palette may have the weirdest and longest name of any eyeshadow palette, but it is an absolutely beautiful girly wonder of pigmentation, blendability and long lasting eyeshadow – I’ve got a full swatch and review post linked here and I just wish I hadn’t waited so long to pick this one up! The ModelsOwn Golden Sands Illuminator* made it into a favourites post here and hasn’t left – I also regret not trying this one sooner! The Mecca Max Sunlit Skin Bronzing Powder in Light has been another favourite of mine for many months – I still can’t believe I love a bronzer more than Nars Laguna – plus it’s much cheaper! I have it swatched and reviewed in full here. The Too Faced Peach Perfect Foundation is something I’ve also loved – my review of this foundation was a little mixed due to the shade, however with my Bali tan fading it’s gotten a whole lot more love in recent weeks and cemented itself firmly into my 2017 favourites! The Rimmel London Brow this Way Fibre Pencil* is something I didn’t expect to work – but this fibre-filled brow pencil is a real winner for filling in sparse brows neatly and easily. I rediscovered the Benefit They’re Real Mascara and haven’t stopped raving about it ever since I tried it again – I didn’t love it anywhere near as much last time I used it but there’s something about it that just does wonders for my eyelashes! The Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Baci is a liquid lipstick formula I’ve tried this year that just absolutely works with my dry lips and compliments pale skin!
The CoverFX Mattifying Setting Spray* is something I haven’t shut up about since I first tested it out – it’s the best I’ve tried yet in terms of keeping my oily nose matte for longer. The ModelsOwn Eyeshadow Primer Base* is another item I didn’t expect to love as much as I do – it has a light tint which helps cancel out any discolouration on my eyelids and really helps eyeshadow last all day! The Mecca Max Oh My Matte Mattifying Primer works beautifully with the CoverFX spray – the duo doesn’t keep my nose matte all day but by far does the best I’ve ever EVER had and I am so impressed. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer in Taupe is another product that’s done me well this last year – it is absolutely a breeze to use and something I’m constantly repurchasing – I just wish it was cheaper! The Bare Minerals Bare Skin Concealer is something I’ve continued to love throughout 2017 for its coverage under the eyes – and on blemishes in a pinch! I was re-introduced to BYS Cosmetics in 2017 and their Peaches Eyeshadow Palette* made it into my favourites – another brand that I hadn’t given a lot of thought to but has really impressed me! PONi Cosmetics released their Unicorn Powders and I absolutely fell head over heels for their Highlighter* because of how little effort is required to create the craziest glow on the cheekbones!
Another ModelsOwn product – shocked?! The Models Own Sculpting Contour Kit Medium-Tan* isn’t at all medium toned at all and flatters my skin at its palest absolutely perfectly! The bronzer, blush and highlight are all absolutely beautiful shades that blend so beautifully onto the skin. The TooFaced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick in Child Star has been another of my favourite liquid lipsticks this past year and is what I reach for on a very consistent basis when I need a long-lasting and flattering nude. Benefit’s Roller Lash Mascara is another product I fell in love with this last year – it gives the most beautiful curl and length to my eyelashes that lasts all day and I couldn’t be happier! The Tarte Tarteist Pro To Go Eyeshadow Palette is something I am SO glad I purchased this last year – I reviewed it in January and still absolutely love it to this day. The Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder in Light I received as a Christmas gift in 2016 and I have used it every time I’ve done my makeup at home in 2017 – it’s the most stunning cool toned contour shade that works absolutely beautifully for fair skintones. Another CoverFX product I’ve loved is the CoverFX Blurring Primer* because it does an absolutely beautiful job at blurring my enlarged pores in my t-zone and the effect lasts a really long time!
The Kat Von D Lock It Makeup Setting Mist is another setting spray I’ve loved this year – this is what I reach for when I know I’ll be out of the house for hours and want my makeup to not budge at all – it’s the best long-lasting setting spray I’ve ever tried, and ties with the two CoverFX sprays as my favourite of the year! The Too Faced Sweetheart Blush is by far my most used and loved blush of the year – it is a beautiful glowing blush that flatters my skin and is something I am just so impressed by! The PONi Cosmetics Zebra Eyebrow Gel* is another PONi product that I swear by – this gel is waterproof and I wear it daily (with or without other makeup) and it keeps my brow hairs in place during even the sweatiest of workouts or laps of the pool – I couldn’t love an eyebrow gel more and I can’t imagine finding another that tops this! The Too Faced Better than Sex Waterproof Mascara is another waterproof wonder that I’ve loved this past year – the formula is identical to their normal BTS mascara yet waterproof and I again swear by it in times of need. The Essence Lip Liner in In The Nude has been my lipliner favourite for the longest time and I’ve continued to swear by it throughout 2017. The last product that deserves a mention is the Colourpop Cosmetics Pressed Powder Highlighter in Here Kitty Kitty because not only does it have an amazing name, the powder is SO crazily pigmented, buttery, blendable and flattering on the skin – I couldn’t not include this in my favourites!
And we’re done! All of my favourite makeup products in 2017 – I collected all of these and sat staring at them on the floor for at least half an hour until I realised I couldn’t take anything out – I couldn’t have loved these products more throughout 2017!
